5/26/2023 0 Comments Boba the fetBoba Fett himself isn't a true Mandalorian. Surely even some Mandalorian free agents dress alike? There's also the fact that this scene is taking place in a secretive location that appears to be off-limits to non-Mandalorians. After all, there are only so many possible color combinations and armor configurations. Theory 3: It's a Red HerringGiven the subtle nature of this Easter egg, the simplest explanation may be that it's neither Boba Fett nor an impostor, but simply a minor character paying visual homage to an iconic villain. It's even possible this character is meant to be Jodo Kast, an Expanded Universe bounty hunter infamous for impersonating Boba Fett and driving up his bounty rates accordingly. We know the Lucasfilm Story Group is very keen on maintaining continuity between the films, TV shows, books, and comics, so it's certainly not impossible the series would reference a loose end from a several-year-old novel. This mystery character may have purchased and restored that armor. Whether Fett himself left his armor behind when he escaped the pit or it was picked off his half-digested corpse is the real question. The armor is even said to have been "pitted and pocked as if with some kind of acid," strongly suggesting this scavenger has stumbled across the discarded armor of Boba Fett himself. As The Boba Fett Fan Club points out, there's a scene in the book where a scavenger on Tatooine uncovers a battered set of Mandalorian armor. This character could be building on a plot point from the Chuck Wendig novel Star Wars: Aftermath. The more logical explanation may be that another person is wearing Boba Fett's armor. Theory 2: It's a Boba Fett Impostor Wearing His ArmorThe biggest argument against this mystery character being Boba Fett is that it's kind of a strange, understated way of bringing back one of the most popular villains in the franchise. Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+ Bundle - $12.99/month (saves $5/month). Annual Subscription - $69.99/year (saves $14/year).In a franchise where Darth Maul managed to survive getting cut in half, it seems inevitable that Boba Fett will cheat death and return. Those stories aren't part of the new Disney canon, but it's entirely possible Lucasfilm will draw inspiration from them and resurrect Boba Fett in one way or another. He went on to play a key role in a number of post-Return of the Jedi stories, even putting aside his feud with Han Solo and becoming the new ruler of Mandalore. The comic book series Star Wars: Dark Empire revealed that Fett eventually escaped, his body scarred but otherwise little the worse for wear. But is it really so impossible that Boba Fett - feared the galaxy over as one of the most dangerous bounty hunters alive - could climb his way out of the Great Pit of Carkoon?īoba Fett certainly survived the Sarlacc in the pre-Disney Expanded Universe. That encounter alone would seem to suggest this isn't Fett. Theory 1: Boba Fett i s in The MandalorianThe Mandalorian takes place five years after the events of Return of the Jedi, meaning it's been half a decade since Boba Fett pratfall'd his way straight into the Sarlacc. But is it really him? Read on for several theories as to the identity of this mysterious Mandalorian. Check out a couple of screencaps we took and lightened featuring the apparent Boba Fett cameo below: Here's a side-by-side comparison of this background character to Boba Fett himself: Based on this image, that definitely looks like Boba Fett's iconic green, gray and red armor. While it's difficult to make out given the shadowy nature of this scene, it appears that Boba Fett is lurking in the background as The Mandalorian walks by. Vanity Fair spotted the possible Boba Fett Mandalorian cameo during the sequence where the titular character visits what seems to be an underground Mandalorian settlement and pays to have his new pauldron armor piece forged (if you want to see the potential Boba Fett cameo for yourself, it's around the 18:30 mark in episode 1).
